TOP PHOTOGRAPHER EPISODES 3/4: What photographer do you relate most with? If you were following them around for a day, what questions would you ask them? If you were given a chance to do any of the photo challenges, what would it be and why? What were the most important takeaways from these two episodes?
Out of the five photographers from the start I think I relate most with Roxy. I think our styles are similar, as I enjoy photographing people and I like to be in the moment with whatever I am photographing, rather than being too focused on the technicalities of it all. I think she has as much fun as I do during the shoot, especially in interacting with her models. If I were to follow Roxy around for the day I would ask if she every takes photos of people in public, and if so how to take an image of them without ruining the moment. If they're caught in a specific action or moment do you just take the photo or do you still ask their permission before taking it? I would also ask her how she manages to keep good technique in her photos without losing that "in the moment" feeling. Sometimes I can't exact my aperture, shutter speed and frame fast enough before the moment is gone, much less go over the lighting and symmetry of the photo in my head before I actually take the photo. Does it become second nature? I think that the most important takeaways from these two episodes are to think outside of the box, rather than recreating photos that others have taken. This idea is especially important at monuments and famous architectural sights, where literally thousands of people have already taken those photos. An additional takeaway is that you should stay true to your style. It's what differentiates you and other photographers, and is vital to your art.
