I believe that the most important aspect of photography is the subject. It is vital to the photograph, to find the perfect subject, one that portrays to emotion you wish to convey as a photographer. To find a subject that has a story to tell, or a landscape that takes your breath away, is by far the most important part of a photograph. Once you have a great subject, I feel you could change the lighting, framing, final editing, etc, in any number of ways, and be successful, as a great subject makes a great photograph with any amount of those things.

So considering I strongly believe the subject is the most important part of any picture, it is the part I focus on the most, and spend the most time fixing and perfecting. That being said, I believe that I could spend more time on the lighting in my photographs, to make the subjects more interesting and dramatic. Although the subject may be intriguing on it's own, the lighting of a photograph gives the subject a certain tone or dramatic flair. I think a lot of the time I get lucky, as the light I end up with in the photograph compliments my subject in most cases, without my intervention and manipulation. But that does not mean I should count on luck in every photograph; I should spend more time manipulating the lighting in order to compliment my subjects.

This is one of my favorite pictures with accidentally perfect lighting
